Introduction to Careers in Public Service

Thursday, April 2, 2026 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The School of Public Administration develops future public service professionals who have the knowledge, skills, and values to serve the public and make our communities safe, productive, and desirable places to live. We do this through programs in emergency management, nonprofit management, public administration, and urban and regional planning, where we prepare students for careers in public service at the local, state, and federal levels of government, in nonprofit organizations, and in private companies that provide services on behalf of the government.

There are many opportunities for people interested in a career in public service. The public sector includes over 22 million employees at the city, county, state and federal levels. The nonprofit sector has expanded to nearly half that number and will continue to expand to meet the needs of the communities it serves. As governments contract with nonprofit and private organizations, demand for the nonprofit and private sectors to deliver important public services increases. Join us at this information session to learn about how you can be a part of this vast and growing career field.
