Hemang Jani, Senior Advisor to the Executive Director for India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka at The World Bank, will deliver a talk titled “Making India Ready for 2047: India’s State Capacity and Development Aspirations” as part of The India Center’s Annual India Lecture Series.

India's journey toward its centenary in 2047 hinges on strengthening state capacity across all sectors. Building the skills and adaptability of civil servants is essential to delivering effective governance and driving development. Equally vital is the expansion of India’s science and technology (S&T) investments and capacity, including the nurturing of talent and human resources in S&T fields. By investing in both institutional strength and S&T capabilities, India can unlock innovation, foster sustainable growth, and meet its ambitious development goals. The talk will explore these intertwined pillars of state capacity and science & technology and their central role in shaping India’s future.
