Identifying the Human Contribution: AI-Informed Assignment Redesign

Wednesday, September 16, 2026 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Bring a current assignment and leave with a reimagined version that showcases what students know and how they think. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll test the assignment instructions with generative AI, identify the student thinking and “human signature” the activity should reveal, and revise one element to make that contribution more visible.

In this workshop, you'll learn to:

  • Analyze what an assignment currently asks students to practice and demonstrate.

  • Use an AI-generated response as a diagnostic tool for identifying generic, hidden, or underdeveloped student thinking.

  • Define the “human signature” the assignment should elicit, such as judgment, context, interpretation, decision-making, or lived experience.

  • Revise an assignment to make student thinking and process more visible.

  • Identify a next step for aligning assessment criteria, process scaffolding, or AI-use guidance with the redesigned activity.

This workshop is limited to faculty, staff and GTA's only.
