Discover how Keller's ARCS Model of Motivational Design can strengthen student engagement in online courses. This workshop explores the four components — attention, relevance, confidence and satisfaction — and demonstrates how they can be intentionally incorporated into Canvas modules. Participants will evaluate one of their own modules and identify practical, evidence-based strategies to improve student motivation and persistence.
In this workshop, participants will learn how to:
- Explain the four components of Keller's ARCS Model and their relationship to student motivation in online learning.
- Identify motivational strengths and barriers within an existing Canvas learning module.
- Apply one evidence-based motivational design strategy to improve student engagement, persistence or satisfaction within a course module.
This workshop is limited to faculty, staff and GTA's only.
