Data Cleaning and Preprocessing Using R

Wednesday, September 30, 2026 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Learn the basics of programming in R through practical data pre-processing tasks. Participants will learn how to use R to import, inspect, clean, transform, summarize, reshape and export messy datasets. Guided demonstrations and hands-on exercises will give attendees practice writing R code using common tools and packages. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Introduction to R
  • Importing and inspecting data
  • Cleaning column names and fixing data types
  • Filtering, selecting, mutating and summarizing data with dplyr
  • Handling missing values, duplicates and inconsistent categories
  • Reshaping data with tidyr
  • Exporting cleaned data for analysis

Prerequisites for Hands-On Exercises:

1. Bring your own laptop.
2. Install R
3. Install RStudio.
