KnightED Talks: Different Children, Different Needs: Differentiating Your TWS

Wednesday, October 18, 2017 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Presenter: Karyn Allee-Herndon, UCF College of Education and Human Performance

In your Internship II placement, you will be required to complete the Teacher Work Sample. The TWS uses seven components to document the process of planning, teaching, and assessing an instructional unit. To effectively meet the needs of all your students, you will need to differentiate your instruction…but how do you do that? In this KnightED Talk we will focus on the work of Carol Ann Tomlinson, renowned differentiation expert, to learn about differentiating process, product, content, and the learning environment in the contemporary classroom. “The idea of differentiating instruction is an approach to teaching that advocates active planning for and attention to student differences in classrooms, in the context of high quality curriculums.”

Tomlinson, C. A. (2014). The differentiated classroom: Responding to the needs of all learners (2nd ed.). Alexandria, Va: Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
