Professor of History, Dr. Luis Martinez Fernandez presents “Love Potions, Fried Plantains, and Goddesses of the Waterways: Transculturation in Early Colonial Cuba.”

Dr. Martinez Fernandez will discuss the processes of cultural hybridity, creolization, and transculturation in sixteenth and seventeenth-century Cuba. Instead of looking at these phenomena as abstractions, the paper incorporates real individual men and women who were part of such processes.
