Students from the Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program are hosting an annual event with the aim to promote a healthy lifestyle by creating a fun and memorable day for children with disabilities. Individuals aged 3 through 21 years and their families are invited to participate in this free event.
Date: March 24, 2018
Time: Two sessions = 10am to 11:30am or 11:30am to 1pm
Location: UCF IOA Plaza (behind Spectrum Stadium)
The day is filled with fun games, sports, and activities that are adapted for children with various types of motor and/or cognitive impairments. There are several stations that kids can explore and they're all customized so children with disabilities able to participate without feeling limited by their disabilities.
There will be activities such as soccer, basketball, face painting, bubbles, and throwing, as well as great music and dancing! Each child will be partnered with a DPT student “buddy” for a 1.5-hour session. The physical therapy student will tailor activities to meet the child’s individual needs and ensure fun and safety!
Family members, including siblings, and legal guardians are invited to participate in the activities or simply relax and watch. There will also be a low-stimulation station in case kids needs a break from all the excitment.
The event will also feature a visit from Knightro and some UCF athletes. In addition, the Orlando chapter of Medals4Mettle will honor each participating child at the end of the event at a medals ceremony!
