About the event: The Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd Program for Strategic Research and Studies is proud to host Issandr El Amrani of the International Crisis Group. The Rabat-based El Amrani is considered one of the most insightful analysts on North Africa, including developments in war-torn Libya, economic struggles in Morocco, the growing pains of democracy in Tunisia, and the fragile yet enduring government in Algeria. El Amrani, who also has a keen understanding of American foreign policy, will also explain Washington’s role in this important region at a particularly turbulent time for North Africa and the broader Arab world.
Brief Biography: Issandr El Amrani is North Africa Project Director for International Crisis Group. Prior to joining ICG, he was a writer and consultant on Middle Eastern affairs based in Cairo. His reporting and commentary on the region has appeared in The Economist, London Review of Books, Financial Times, The National, The Guardian, Time and other publications. He has also advised leading investment firms and NGOs on the region. He is the founder of The Arabist, one of the longest-running and most-read blogs on Arab politics culture, and the co-founder of Cairo magazine. He is also a fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations. Issandr, who is Moroccan-American, has lived in the region since 2000, mostly in Cairo, and currently resides in Rabat.
