Research Colloquia and Dialogue Series

The first research colloquia of the semester, "Assessing Risk Communication in Social Media: A Social Network Analysis of Microblog," will feature guest speaker Jia Shi and discussant Claire Knox, Ph.D.

Jia Shi will discuss risk communication during crisis and the social amplification of risk in social media. She will share findings from a recent large-scale environmental protest rallying against a copper-molybdenum plant in China. Jia is currently a visiting researcher at the UCF School of Public Administration. She is a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Public Policy and Administration at Xi’an Jiaotong University, China. She conducts research in emergency management and social media.

Present and future researchers are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
