UNITY STAR: To Believe in Others: A Person-Centered Approach to Educational Support (DIV 584)

Tuesday, February 15, 2022 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

In the 1940s, psychologist Dr. Carl R. Rogers fathered the concept of person-centered therapy, which prioritized a client’s ability and capacity and defined the role of the professional as a facilitator of an environment conducive to growth and development. The core principles of this concept can also be applied to the learning environment and benefit our marginalized communities especially. This session aims to answer one question: how can we on a college campus apply the foundations of this support style to our interactions with our audiences to support them in their goals and aid in their development despite the circumstance? Belief is a powerful thing.
