UCF Literacy Symposium: Building Critical Thinking and Deeper Reading Experiences Through Multimodal Texts, Grades 6-12

Thursday, March 23, 2023 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

KnightEd Talks, is proud to announce this UCF Literacy Symposium:

Building Critical Thinking and Deeper Reading Experiences Through Multimodal Texts, Grades 6-12.

Dr. Jason DeHart, an English teacher at Wilkes Central High School in Wilkesboro, NC, will present the possibilities of multimodal texts, from media messages to film, comics and beyond to build engagement, motivation, and critical thinking with young adult readers in the secondary grades. Because students live in an increasingly networked world with a wide range of texts, Dr. DeHart examines both the literacy foundations and potential applications of using multiple modes of materials in the classroom. The title of his presentation is Building Critical Thinking and Deeper Reading Experiences Through Multimodal Texts, Grades 6-12.

Whether you teach, lead, support, or research, this presentation carries many implications for school- and classroom-based multimodal texts that will engage, motivate, and promote critical thinking for students. We look forward to seeing you on 3/23/23!
