Purple Heart Day is observed on August 7 each year, and the month of August is known by many as Purple Heart Month. The Purple Heart is the oldest active military honor award in this country. Since 1917, the Purple Heart has been awarded to U.S. servicemen and women who have been injured or killed while committing meritorious or valorous acts during their military service. At UCF, August is a time for our campus and local community to remember and honor the brave and selfless service people who have either been wounded or killed while serving their country. On August 24, the Military and Veteran Student Success Center, in collaboration with the Community Veterans History Project, will host a day of recognition and remembrance to honor Purple Heart recipients across the country, both past and present. This event will take place in UCF's Magnolia Room from 3-4:30 p.m. and will include special Purple Heart speakers, light refreshments, and a chance to engage with and support our local Veteran community.
