A design workshop for having fun with vintage type!
Join Dori Griffin, author of Type Specimens, for a virtual digital workshop that repurposes historical typographic material as a tool for self-expression. In this workshop, we'll explore type specimen books, starting with a quick, visual history shared by Dori. Then we'll mine the riches of these unique books for typographic beauty, combining diverse visual materials to craft visual poems or other forms of self-expression.
No prior knowledge necessary. Attendees should join zoom workshop laptop or desktop computer is preferable to use work the workshop (phones and tablets will not work as well) Anyone can join us to learn more and make something beautiful.
Bio: Dori Griffin researches and writes about the accidentally overlooked and intentionally excluded makers, users, and artifacts of visual communication design history. She is an Associate Professor of Design & Visual Communication at the University of Florida School of Art + Art History. With her students and colleagues there, she imagines, researches, and designs more equitable futures for all.
