Facilitators: Sabrina Deaton, Marisa Lucca and Trisha Brockway
The culture in the United States places significant emphasis on self-reliance and individual autonomy. This often means that persons with disabilities are expected to find ways to improve their situations and develop social relationships in a climate in which the attitudes, and ultimately the behaviors, of others present additional challenges. The goal of this workshop is to expand awareness of the experiences of people with disabilities by encouraging workshop participants to explore their conscious and unconscious perceptions (and misconceptions) of people with disabilities, and how these may affect attitudes and behaviors.
