Knock 'Em Dead...A Crazy Murder Musical!

Friday, September 27, 2024 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Join us at Fringe ArtSpace for a play created by one of our own film professors Barry Sandler!

Enter the wild, funny, outrageous musical world of this brassy, ballsy, irreverent black-comic murder mystery poking fun at Hollywood, moviemaking and fame:

Five years ago (1984), three young women starred in the hit horror movie FREAK SHOW, but plans for the sequel went awry when they clashed, parted, and faded into obscurity, poverty and drugs. Now,1989, desperate for money and another chance, they are called back together for that sequel and this time they are willing. Joined by their manipulating Producer, his caustic Screenwriter wife, their smarmy Director and his ambitious Starlet girlfriend -- all washed-up and needing the gig, along with a cocky young Journalist out to make his name -- they gather at the location of the first movie, a spooky old house on a small deserted island, to mend old wounds and prepare for new beginnings.

But once they are together, old conflicts rekindle --- and then something goes terribly wrong: their boat is wrecked, all lines of communication to the mainland are severed, leaving them trapped on the island together, cut off from the world. And then - one by one they are murdered, in the same off-the-wall manner the victims were murdered in their movie. That movie now comes to life before their eyes, as a masked killer stalks them and may even be one of them. Tension mounts, bodies drop, there is no way out -- and the singing never stops! But this gang refuses to buckle -- they fight back! To save the lives that remain before they are all killed, they band together and set out after the killer -- using the same methods they did in the movie, only this time for real -- and to music!
