As the number of school-age children prescribed psychotropic medications grows, it becomes increasingly important for educators and mental health professionals to understand the positive and negative aspects of these drugs. Given the potential impact medications have on children’s school performance, teachers and counselors can collaboratively assist children and their families who may be in need of or are currently using psychotropic medications.
Participants will learn about the various classes of psychotropic medications commonly used to treat children and adolescents. Medication(s) influence on brain function, the impact on a child’s wellbeing, safety and addictive qualities will also be explored and discussed.
In addition, all participants will receive a certificate for 8 hours towards continuing education units or in-service hours.
