Twists, Turns and PhDs: Navigating the Realities of Today’s PhD Job Market

Tuesday, October 30, 2018 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Roughly 10% of PhD trainees obtain tenure track faculty positions despite the academic career path remaining the focus of advanced science education/training at most institutions. Meanwhile, PhD trainees and their employers want more diverse career training integrated into PhD curricula such that the curricula better connects with today’s job market. This session will highlight today’s biomedical science job market and it will outline strategies for how PhD trainees can best prepare for diverse career paths. Participants will learn that PhDs in the biomedical sciences are employed in a variety of diverse job markets and that there are specific actions that can be taken to best prepare for a particular career path.

Students must register for all workshops through their myUCF Student Center under Graduate Students then Pathways to Success.
